Use a memory trick to help remember
which words should be capitalized.
First, imagine a car. On top of the
car is a baseball hat, a cap. This
is the cap car.
Press ENTER
On the left side of the car is
painted a huge calendar.
All words that appear on a calendar
should be capitalized: Thanksgiving,
Palm Sunday, Christmas, Easter, etc.

On the right side of the car is
painted a map.
Any word that appears on a map
should be capitalized: Snake River,
Idaho, Rexburg, Teton Peaks, etc.

Inside the car are six people, all
from different countries.
Capitalize the names of countries and
races: Indian, English, Scotish,
Mexican, African, British, etc.

The cap car is pulling a trailer, a
box on wheels. You can step into
the trailer. On one wall is
displayed historical documents.
Capitalize historical documents:
Bill of Rights, Magna Charta, etc.

Against another wall is a table. On
the table are models which depict
battles from the Civil War.
Capitalize historical events and
periods: World War II, Battle of
Wounded Knee, French Revolution, etc.

Against a third wall is a display.
On this table are model buildings.
Capitalize building names:
First Ward, Rexburg Stake Center,
Center Theater, Smith Building,
Manwaring Center, etc.

Standing against the forth wall is
a model of the Statue of Liberty.
Capitalize monuments and memorials:
Statue of Liberty, Lincoln Memorial,
etc.

Let's review a few points: We have a cap (capitalization) car. It re-
minds us of: map, calendar, races, countries, buildings, historical
events and documents, statues and monuments.

Based on the rules thus far, these words would be capitalized:
the Salt Lake City Museum, Tower Falls, Chinese, Argentinian, Dutch, the
Salmon River, Yellow Island, the Northwest, Yellowstone Park.

Now all the men get out of the car and begin to pray to their own God.
They each read from their own scriptures. Capitalize the names of
religions and religious books.

Ghost.

Don't capitalize course names
unless they have a number with
the name.
wrong: I take History and Math.
right: I take History 170 and
Math 110.
Capitalize titles when they are
used in place of the name but not
when used with ``my.''
My mother was on the campus.
Give Mother my books. My aunt was
here. Tell Aunt Susan to come
later.
The letter ``I'' is always cap-
italized.
Capitalize the interjection ``O''
but not ``oh'' unless it begins
a sentence.
I need thee, O Lord.
This completes the capitalization tutorial.
